Animal Welfare Society of Monroe

Thanks to the generous community donations and support and with the help of 
our wonderful volunteers and WNEP TV, WBRE TV and the Pocono Record, AWSOM 
has adopted over 215 animals to their forever homes in 14 weeks.

Shelter Volunteers needed

Our volunteers are vitally important and each task performed is a significant contribution to the health and welfare of the animals in the shelter. Volunteers must be 18 years of age to work independently.  If you are an animal lover age 16 - 18 years of age you may volunteer in the shelter if accompanied by a parent or guardian. There are other volunteer opportunities if you are under the age of 16: picking up things for the animals, fundraising events, etc.


Volunteer Positions Available:

Animal Care Assistant - Canine - This volunteer assists staff with completing daily cleaning duties, keeping the shelter facilities clean and    comfortable for the dogs. 
Animal Care Assistant - Feline - This volunteer assists the staff with completing daily cleaning duties of the cat cages, and keeping their facilities clean and comfortable for our cats. 
Dog Walking Program - This volunteer will walk the dogs each day as scheduled. You will learn how to tell what dogs 
Have been walked and how many times. You will learn the yahoo calendar to help assist us in scheduling. This is very important to our pets to exercise everyday and to enrich their lives with humane companionship. 
Laundry Assistant Program - This volunteer supports our staff in the laundry area to keep clean fresh bedding for all of our animals. Provide support by running and sorting soiled items through the washing machine and dryer, Folding and keeping the shelter stocked with fresh bedding and towels. 
Receptionist/Office Assistant - This volunteer will assist in answering the telephone, Checking the lost and found column to re-unite families with their lost pet. Complete forms and keep track of people who would like to adopt, Keep track of people who must surrender their pet, Assist with daily office duties and greeting people entering the shelter. 
Website/Photographer Assistant - This volunteer would work with the shelter manager on photographing and placing all of our animals on our website. Provide support and assistance with keeping our website up to date. 
Transportation Assistant - This volunteer would assist the shelter staff in transporting our animals back and fourth to the veterinary office.
